Pizza Pizza!

Pizza Pizza!

The B.R.I.D.G.E.S.  students practiced how to calculate leaving a tip and perfecting their signature, prior to heading out on their Community Based Instruction field trip this week. The students were so excited about going to Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza for lunch and ordering the delicious pizza!

Once they arrived at the restaurant, students ordered their own meals and enjoyed conversation with one another. After lunch, each student was given their individual check.  Students were able to use their debit cards for the first time.  All the students did a great job figuring out tip, adding up the total cost of the check and signing the check.  We are so proud of the students practicing their life skills!

We have been chosen for the second consecutive year by The Miami Foundation to participate in Give Miami Day, an annual giving movement that brings together nonprofits of all sizes to celebrate and increase generosity in Greater Miami. Please join us on November 17th for 24 hours of online giving in support of the programs we provide in Miami-Dade County for high school students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This event raises awareness of the vital role our B.R.I.D.G.E.S. Program plays in our community. We are working together to make Miami a thriving, more inclusive place for everyone. Please don’t pass up your chance to make a positive difference in the lives of the teens and young adults we serve.

Halloween Fun!

Halloween Fun!

Today the HDS B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students enjoyed a walk around the school campus during their trick-or-treat activity! While students enjoyed the activity, they were also working on navigating around the school campus using a map. They used environmental texts, such as building and classroom numbers where the staff was handing out goodies. Students also practiced their behaviors as they walked down the hallways and had appropriate conversations with the staff at each location. After all of the trick or treat fun, the students went back to class and enjoyed a pizza party and socialized with their peers.

Happy Halloween!
