To prepare for next week’s Halloween party, B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students visited Target to select treats for their classmates!
Before the trip, students explored different options, including candy, snacks, pens, squishes, puzzles, and other Halloween-themed items. They also practiced budgeting in the classroom to prepare for making purchasing decisions at the store.
Each student received a $12 budget and needed to select an item containing at least 10 pieces so every classmate would receive something. Working in small groups, students compared choices, used calculators to total their purchases, and confirmed that they stayed within budget.
At self-checkout, students independently scanned, bagged, and paid for their items. This fun and educational Community-Based Instruction experience strengthened budgeting, decision-making, independent functioning, and social skills while helping students prepare for a festive classroom celebration!
