Broward Sheriff’s Office Autism Family Day

Broward Sheriff’s Office Autism Family Day

This exciting community event brought together families, educators, and local organizations for a day dedicated to connection, support, and celebration of individuals with Autism. The HDS Foundation, alongside several other nonprofit organizations, hosted resource tables filled with valuable information, tools, and services designed to support families at every stage of their journey.

Guests explored a wide range of community resources, learned about programs and supports available locally, and connected with professionals who are passionate about making a difference. This was a great opportunity to ask questions, gather helpful materials, and discover new services that can benefit families.

In addition to resource tables, Autism Family Day featured engaging activities, interactive experiences, and a welcoming environment where families could build meaningful connections with others in the community.

Painting, Creativity, and Inspiration

Painting, Creativity, and Inspiration

Special thanks to Patricia Beltran, a talented local artist and proud parent of one of our B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students, who generously volunteered her time to lead a painting class for our students!

Students gathered their supplies—paint, brushes, canvases, and aprons—and eagerly got to work. Mrs. Beltran first shared a completed example of a beautiful spring-themed painting, then guided students step by step as they created their own. Everyone was encouraged to use their creativity and imagination, making each piece unique.

This activity provided a wonderful opportunity for students to express themselves creatively while socializing and collaborating with their classmates. It also supported personal growth by helping students explore hobbies that can serve as positive coping strategies.

We are so grateful for this inspiring experience and for Mrs. Beltran’s generosity and creativity!

 Mindfulness in Motion!

 Mindfulness in Motion!

The B.R.I.D.G.E.S. students enjoyed a peaceful afternoon at Weston Regional Park, participating in a guided yoga and mindfulness session surrounded by the trees.

Through stretching, focused breathing, and grounding techniques, students practiced being present, managing stress, and strengthening the connection between mind and body, all while enjoying some fresh air.

After yoga, the class wrapped up the outing with a picnic style lunch, providing additional opportunities to practice social communication, cooperation, and relaxation in a natural setting. A perfect blend of wellness, nature, and social skill building!

A heartfelt thank you to Michell Llovet with Mindful Movements for Life, for an empowering experience that showed the students how meaningful mindful practices can be. All the students absolutely loved it! Namaste!
